The Dynamics of Addiction

When you begin to fight an addiction, you are going up against a lot of different factors. First, there is overcoming the addiction itself. That is a whole process itself. Beyond that, you must also face all of the personal and emotional issues that probably got you to that point.

A lot of us addicts struggle with past trauma or some sort of family history of substance abuse. For me, alcohol was introduced at a very early age. I was twelve the first time I drank, which led to me trying cocaine at age sixteen.

An older cousin of mine introduced me to it, and life just became a downward spiral from that point on. Not having a fully developed brain didn’t help either.

As I grew up and abused drugs and alcohol regularly, it greatly affected my brain. Today I am in my forties and still feel that I did irreparable damage to my mind. I still resist the urge to drink.

Having been an alcoholic for most of my life, it was difficult to try and have a normal life afterwards. People on the outside with no understanding of addiction expect addicts like me to simply get clean and go on with life as if nothing happened.

It is a daily struggle that I still fight. I still have cravings and moments of weakness, but the tools I developed in recovery have greatly helped me to resist the urges.

So recovery is tough. That goes without saying. When you finally make the decision to accept help, there are a lot of other issues to deal with. Which rehab do I go to? Which one will work best for me?

Sometimes it takes a few tries before you are at a point where you can ultimately accept the help offered. Then there is the issue of money. Which recovery center will accept my insurance?

How much money will this set me back? There are enough things to worry about when conquering addiction, and the financial aspect of recovery is just another hurdle to overcome.

Cigna Finding Substance Abuse Treatment

Cigna: Finding Substance Abuse Treatment

Some insurance companies are more compassionate to addicts than others. There are a lot of companies out there that do not cover recovery whatsoever. There is a lot to consider when finding the right recovery center.

Finding alcohol treatment centers that take insurance is a big one. Luckily for me, I chose Cigna. There are a number of recovery centers that work directly with Cigna. I chose Pathfinders for this very reason.

I was very surprised at the ease of dealing with Cigna when it came to getting me into recovery. I had assumed it would be a nightmare to try and figure it out, but they were extremely caring and supportive during that difficult time.

It’s very important that addicts have access to the right information when it comes to health insurance for substance abuse treatment. A lot of these companies won’t give you a straight answer.

Doing your research first is vital to the process. The number one thing that I appreciated with Cigna and Pathfinders was the transparency. I wasn’t led to believe something that wasn’t true.

Cigna and Pathfinders both were very honest about what they covered and what I could expect. That’s a lot more than most insurance companies can say. Cigna has a great behavioral health division that is extremely supportive to those trying to get back on their feet.

If you are seeking luxury recovery services, Cigna will work with you to figure out the best possible scenario. While there might be some out-of-pocket expenses, they make no effort to fool you.

They are as upfront and honest as an insurance company can be to someone who is in a vulnerable position. With most addictions, aftercare services are very beneficial.

You can expect to be offered these services once you complete treatment, and it is very important that you consider this. When they say “One day at a time”, they mean it. You could be clean for years and still feel the urge to fall off the wagon.

Aftercare treatment can be very rewarding and a lot of these services are covered by companies like Cigna.

The behavioral health division at Cigna now offers a free education series designed to teach important information on the topic of addiction and recovery.

They also cover most substance abuse in-patient services, as well as outpatient services. Whatever specific type of addiction you are fighting, this is a company that offers multiple options as far as treatment is concerned. You won’t have to look too hard to find what is best for you. They are very understanding in most circumstances.

Cigna and the Continuum of Care

The most important aspect of any insurance company when it comes to recovery programs is that they understand the process. Since they do this on a daily basis, they have a lot of insight into the struggles of addiction.

Addiction is a difficult enough fight on it’s own. They understand that you’re not going to be primarily thinking about how you’re going to cover the cost of your stay. They will work with you to make the process as painless as possible.

Whether you are seeking inpatient or outpatient therapy for substance abuse, Cigna has you covered in most circumstances. What works for some people may not work for others. Some people benefit more from checking themselves into recovery for an extended period of time.

Some people benefit more from group therapy, while others require more one-on-one assistance. Cigna understands that each addiction is case by case. They run the gamut of treatment options to make sure that you can get your life back.

When you make the decision to get clean, you are taking a giant step in the right direction. A lot of people don’t ever get to a point where they seek help. The fact that you put yourself out there and realized that you need help is huge.

It’s important to appreciate the decisions that you’ve made on your path to getting sober. Once you recognize you’ve put yourself in a good place, it can greatly increase your confidence in achieving sobriety.
